Every year, Mirada hosts a Planners Meeting – which features a specially designed lineup that includes discussions on the festival’s theater and dance productions (16 from Brazil and 25 from abroad), reflecting the boundaries, the new grounds and the challenges of the Ibero-American scene, communicating the issues that face the world today.

In its fifth edition, Mirada continues to fulfill its purpose of providing an overview of the contemporary Ibero-American performing arts scene, while creating a space for reflection and fostering a dialogue among artists, researchers, curators, journalists, producers and the audience.

With that in mind, in addition to the performances, the group will participate in a series of learning activities from September 9-13, with discussions and exchanges, swapping experiences and reflections about the politics of making theater, with a series of round-table debates held daily at 11 a.m., and creative process openings, at 2 p.m., at the Sesc Santos Meeting Location:

PANEL: NARRATIVES FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD: WOMEN’S VOICES

Latin-American directors share their views on the voice of women in theater based on their work and their personal background. Peruvian Claudia Tangoa talks about her work Ñaña, inspired by a personal experience, and Mexican Coinchi León presents Mayan ancestry from the point of view of women, the subject matter of her play Del manantial del corazón.

PANEL: MEMORY IN THE PRESENT

The memory inherited from totalitarian governments in Latin American countries is the theme of this roundtable with the participation of Fabio Rubiano Orjuela, director of Colombian company Teatro Petra; director Lucero Millán, a member of Nicaraguan collective Teatro Justo Ruffino Guaray; dramatist Sara Pinheiro and actress Natália Santos, both part of the piece Cine Splendid; whose works dialogue with the consequences of the military dictatorships in the continent.

CREATIVE PROCESS OPENING: THE ANATOMY OF VIOLENCE

Siblings Heidi and Rolf Abderhalden discuss the anatomy of violence in Colombia through their work in Mapa Teatro, the company they founded in 1984, debating and reflecting on the interest in the relationship between party and violence in Colombia, a question that led them to problematize and to artistically elaborate the distinct devices and festive scenarios used by three agents of violence in the country: drug trafficking, paramilitarism, and guerrilla warfare.

PANEL: ORALITERATURE: POETICS OF ORALITY

In theater writing, oraliture refers to a poetics of orality that requires the body and the voice to be enacted as language. To debate the issue, researcher, poet and dramatist Leda Maria Martins, who created the concept, talks to dramatist, actress and director Grace Passô, from Minas Gerais, of the show Preto, and with Marcela Salinas, dramatist and actress of the Chilean play Estado Vegetal.

CREATIVE PROCESS OPENING: PROOF PROJECT - STUDIES ON PERCEPTION AND REPRESENTATION MODELS (Arg)

The creative process and the language research developed for the creation of the Tests Project will be presented to the public. Argentinean director Matías Feldman presents each of the investigations carried out in the different parts of the project, and the models of representation resulting from each of the seven experiments, giving a greater emphasis to the work Rhythm (Test 5), which is participating in Mirada.

PANEL: CURATORSHIP: REPORTS ON RESISTANCE AND INVENTION

National and international curators, representing theater festivals from different regions and countries, talk about the thinking, the research and the gaze involved in curating performing arts festival in different contexts.

PANEL: AUTOFICTION ON STAGE

Autofiction, a genre in which autobiography and fiction merge, is discussed from the point of view of theater with actor, director and dramatist Henrique Fontes, of the play A invenção do Nordeste; actor, director and dramatist Nelson Baskerville, of the play A vida; and Uruguayan director and dramatist Sergio Blanco, of the play El bramido de Düsseldorf.
