Mirada brings together and promotes an exchange between two dance collectives that investigate the poetics of the black body: the Sankofa group, from Colombia, participating in the festival with La ciudad de los otros, and Cia. Sansacroma, from São Paulo, which was invited to this experience. The artistic creation resulting from that encounter will be presented to the public.

Sankofa means "to return to the root"; more than a word, it is an African philosophy that proposes recognizing the past as a condition to understand the present and to be able to envision the future. That thought guides the path of the Afro-Colombian Cultural Corporation Sankofa, founded by Rafael Palacios in 1997, as a space dedicated to training and creation in dance. Through its educational projects and stagings, the Corporation intends to build a bridge between Afro-Colombian peoples and the African continent.

Cia. Sansacroma was created 15 years ago and operates in Capão Redondo. The company’s discussions and actions are based on relations between the body, race and class in the common realities of the peripheries of the city. Created and directed by choreographer Gal Martins, the project’s research methodology is the Outrage Dance, an aesthetic dance language that intends to reverberate collective outrages.

Tickets from 10 a.m. on September 8.
